I so want to go to a Twenty One Pilots concert, or see Panic at the Disco, or maybe even Black Veil Brides. But take me to see a group of 70s and 80s bands? Are you kidding me?

Well, nope, no kidding. I went with my parents…and it wasn’t bad. I actually had a good time! (And it wasn’t just because I got nachos and a plastic souvenir cup.)

Mom got me listening to old bands years ago, so I was familiar with a lot of the music. She got me into bands like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and several others. The lineup for tonight’s concert was Cheap Trick, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, and the headliner, Heart.

Joan Jett                 Cheap Trick

Cheap Trick was okay, but not my favorite; I guess because I only knew one of their songs. Now Joan Jett, she kicked butt! I Love Rock N Roll was one of her big hits back in the early 80s and that, along with Bad Reputation, blew the concert-goers away.

The audience erupted with shouts and applause when Heart took the stage. Sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson made the whole crowd lit with hits like Barracuda and Crazy on You. Even in their older age, Ann Wilson’s mighty voice sounded just as powerful and clear as ever, and as lead guitarist, Nancy’s fingers were still as nimble and fast as in her younger years. They were one of the first and only female rock groups to rise to fame in the late 70s, early 80s. They set their mark in rock history and hold onto their fame today. Heart’s 2 encore songs were tributes to Led Zeppelin, where Nancy played the mandolin, which made for a great ending to a great evening.

So, being familiar with older music can be a good thing, especially when bonding with your elders. It shows you care about their opinions and likes, and helps you get to know them better. This goes to show you that teens can be into a few things that older people are into to, and gives you an opportunity to learn a little history as you go.

So, get with your parents and grandparents to see what music they listened growing up. Some of it sounds good even today.

XOXO,                                                                                                                                                          Marisal
