Teens…Killers. Is this good vs bad? Is it young vs old? What common thread pairs the two? Killers are usually scary people, maybe with guns or knives, very possibly in prison.

But not these Killers. No, they’re the ones you’d like to meet. Ones you’d probably get an autograph from. They’re not just killers, they’re The Killers!

So, the #1 thing we have in common? MUSIC!

The American rock band, The Killers, formed in Las Vegas in 2001 and have sold an estimated 22 million records worldwide. They have performed at the prestigious Madison Square Garden, in New York City, and even Wembley Stadium, located in London, England!

The band’s name, The Killers, comes from a logo on a bass drum of a fictitious band portrayed in a music video of “Crystal” by the New Order. Members are: Brandon Flowers on Lead Vocals, keyboards, and bass, Dave Keuning on guitar and backing vocals, Mark Stoermer on bass, guitar, and backing vocals, and Ronnie Vannucci, Jr. on drums and percussion.

In the early stages of their careers, they played small venues on Saturday nights in Vegas. Practices were held in Vannucci’s garage where they came up with song ideas. Many nights they snuck into the band room at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, to practice. At the time, Vannucci studied classical percussion there.

Mr. Brightside was one of the first songs written together by Brandon and Dave, and it’s been called the song of the decade according to UK radio stations. In 2010, Rolling Stone magazine listed it as the 48th best song of the 21st century.

Their first album, Hot Fuss, which contained All These Things That I’ve Done, Somebody Told Me, and Mr. Brightside, became a huge success, especially with all the touring they did. Hot Fuss reached #1 in the UK in 2005, and certified 7xPlatinum in the UK and Ireland. It has been heard around the world, and also reached 3xPlatinum in the US.

Their albums consist of: Hot Fuss, 2004, Sam’s Town 2006, Day & Age, 2008, and Battle Born, 2012. They also released B-sides compilations, Sawdust, 2007, Live from the Royal Albert Hall 2009, a greatest hits album, Direct Hits in 2013, and a Christmas album Don’t Waste Your Wishes

A Cowboy’s Christmas Ball from their Christmas Album.

Their new and fifth album, Wonderful, Wonderful, is scheduled to be released on Sept 22, 2017. I can’t wait to hear what they have for us!

That’s all for now,

Raina
