When we were kids, we learned that the Pilgrims made friends with the Indians and sat down to share a meal with each other. Today we celebrate this event by getting together with family and friends to share food. Hope you go to an elderly person’s house, like Grandma or Aunt Ruby, because they’ve been around a long time and know how to cook!
So, we eat turkey, maybe some ham, cornbread dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, and don’t forget about the scrumptious pumpkin pie! And with all the good food, except for the pea salad that somebody always brings, we stuff ourselves until we can’t eat another bite.
So, we got the food and relatives/friends covered, what else are we thankful for?
Well, let’s take a look at some basic blessings we have, other than cell phones and other technology, that we take for granted:
1. We have clean drinking water, and we have enough water to take showers, baths, and wash our clothes.
And, with the excess of water we have, we also have sewage systems that take all the nasties away.
2. We have shelter against the cold and rain, beds to sleep in, clothes, and shoes to protect our feet.
3. We have plenty to eat and the nutrition we need. Because of that, America has some of the tallest/biggest people in the world.
4. We have schools where we learn so many things that help us have a better future. I know, I know, school can be a pain, but we gotta, gotta do it.
Hmmm, that’s a lot. We have so many more things to be thankful for because we have brave men and women
that have both risked, and given their lives, to protect us and keep us free.
5. We have freedom of speech without fear of death or imprisonment.
6. That goes hand in hand with the right to peacefully protest what we don’t agree with or strongly oppose. Some protests turn into looting and violence – now that one is against the law.
7. We have the right to worship the way we see fit without fear of death imprisonment.
8. We have democracy, where the people vote on who leads the country and vote in the members of congress that run the country. Others countries may have dictators or tyrants that make people do what they want out of fear of death or imprisonment.
Did you know that in many countries woman have no right and are seen as property?
9. We live in peace, unlike war torn countries where cities or villages are bombed or shot up; family members killed or missing and never seen again. Some countries have soldiers as young as 12 years old.
10. One that was a big deal in the recent election is the right to bear arms. That means law abiding citizens are able to own guns to protect themselves. You think people won’t be killed if they’re outlawed? Think again, if guns are outlawed only the outlaws will have them. Then, we’d be in trouble!
And #1. Thank God we have so many blessings to be thankful for that the list goes on and on and on.
Remember, His love is endless and you are worth more than you can ever imagine!
Until next time,
Rhaya
